It was not very much behind in the pages of history that Apple had more than one billion podcast subscribers in  2014. According to Edison Research, 48 percent of Americans know what podcasts are & 30 percent have listened to them in the past.Podcasting has emerged as a primary source of information & entertainment in the last 5 years. It can prove to be a powerful marketing product in case the data going is something which increases people’s knowledge about a business, service or product. For cycling fraternity as well, podcasts have been of much importance. Many cycling lovers continue to listen & view podcasts in order to keep up with the recent trends of the cycling world.Podcasting – A BackgroundPodcasts are are a relatively new type of technology & are also a popular means of entertainment & communication. As a matter of fact, Netscape developers had come up with the idea on this thing in 1999 itself with a motive to create a way through which any site could be updated & the updates made to reach the audience without users having to visit the sites individually checking on the new uploads & changes. It was during this time, that RSS (Real Simple Syndication) was launched with a different name though.Initially, the RSS feed was only able to syndicate text. Thanks to the team work of Adam Curry (media persona & developer) & Dave Winer (software developer) that in 2000, the RSS feed was able to accommodate larger files like audio in order to give RSS feed a makeover. Winer created the software to aggregate feeds from various sources on the internet. By early 2001, he was able to get songs on his RSS feed through his software. As a matter of fact, the advancements had just started. Winer showed this software to Christopher Lydon, his colleague in 2003 who was a journalist & was popular for conducting audio interviews & uploading them as mp3s in his blog posts. Once Winer’s technology & Lydon’s blog posts met, the readers online were able to access this audio content automatically by merely subscribing to the blog. Harold Gilchrist, a blogger, mentioned this audio-rich blog while hosting a session on “audio blogging” at the world’s first BloggerCon.Lydon’s acceptance to the new trend gave Curry the willpower to develop the prototype of the software which would take RSS feeds to the next level in audio syndication as it allowed the audio to be downloaded by users, passed to iTunes & played on mp3 players. To test the prototype, Curry launched the “Daily Source Code” which is considered as the first podcast in August, 2004. The success was huge as merely within a month of airing, people were “podcasting” from Sweden to Australia to the US as reported by the New York Times.Curry led a session on audio blogging & podcasting in November’04 during BloggerCon III. in the same month, the very first podcast hosting platform called Libsyn was launched. Seeing the popularity, Steve Jobs made an announcement that podcasts would be a part of the 4.9 version of iTunes in June’04. “Podcast” was the word of the year in the New Oxford American Dictionary in December that year.Cycling Podcast – The NeedCycling is definitely something which isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.
